How to make your Eid ka Gosht healthy & delicious!

How to make your Eid ka Gosht healthy & delicious!

Kaleji & Maghaz for breakfast; bhuna gosht for lunch and mutton biryani for dinner. Three days of eating like this and your cholesterol is probably shooting through the roof.
But don’t worry – there are options for eating healthy without needing a trip to the doctor.

Host a Barbeque Party

Instead of cooking in loads of oil or frying, start grilling your meat for a healthier meal that tastes delicious as well. Just make sure you marinate the meat properly as that is the key to a good barbeque. Additionally, use a silicon pastry brush to brush the meat instead of a spoon as that will ensure you use even less oil.
Try a grilled chicken tikka or a delicious malai boti on your next barbeque party.

Try an Asian Stir-fry instead of Bhuna Gosht

Don’t get us wrong – we love our Bhuna Gosht but scooping out the oil on top can get difficult at times. Why not switch some things around and try an Asian main course like this stir-fried beef with vegetables. Use seasonal vegetables and serve with rice.

Use the right utensils

No matter how carefully you drizzle, a spoon will always result in more oil being poured versus a pastry brush. On the other hand, a pastry brush (the silicon one to be exact) will result in far less oil being used plus the application would be more even.
Similarly, if you use a non-stick pan to cook it would use less oil than our regular Desi pots / pans. Just make sure you use a proper ‘chamcha’ to stir otherwise your beautiful new pan is going to get all scratched.
This beef shish kebab is the perfect recipe to try out your new pastry brush. In case you don’t have a grill pan just take out your non-stick frying pan and saute with a little bit of oil.

Grill some Burgers versus making Aloo Qeema

As healthy as it is, taking out the barbeque and getting the fire ready is not the easiest thing to do. The next best solution is to invest in a grill pan and start grilling on the stove. Make sure the pan is hot and then add your meat to make sure you get that perfect char-grilled effect on the outside. Once the meat is grilled turn the  heat to low to cook it from outside. Again, use that pastry brush to minimize your oil usage.

Bake instead of Frying

The reason that baking is healthier is because it cooks meat & vegetables at higher temperatures without needing the extra fat. Just a drizzle of oil is usually enough for cooking protein and one can always cover with aluminum foil to create a cover that generates steam for cooking.
Additionally, if you are using meat that has a lot of fat, you can put the meat on a tray and keep a roasting pan below that will collect all the melted fat. Once the fat is melted, you can just throw it away ensuring that your cooked piece of meat has even less oil.
