Sesame Buns

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 sachet instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup milk, scalded but cooled to warm
  • 4 ounces melted butter (1/2 cup)
  • 5 cups flour, plus more, as needed
  • Muffin tray or baking tray
  • 1 egg white beaten for egg wash
  • Sesame seeds for topping

DIRECTIONS

  • 1. In a big mixing bowl, pour warm water, yeast & sugar.
  • 2. Mix and add egg, salt, warm milk, and 4 ounces of butter.
  • 3. Slowly add 5 cups flour and keep mixing & kneading with hand, adding more flour as needed to make an elastic dough.
  • 4. Knead well, then roll out to floured surface and knead dough for about 5 minutes more.
  • 5. Place dough in buttered bowl, cover with towel, and set in a warm place to rise until double in size, approximately about 1 hour.
  • 6. Pull small portions of the dough & form 2-3 inch balls. Grease the muffin tray & Place 1 ball in each muffin tin. Fill muffin pan, cover with towel, and allow to rise an additional 1/2 hour.You can do the same in a greased baking tray. Put the balls with some distance as the dough will rise.
  • 7. Preheat oven to 350 -380 degrees F.
  • 8. Brush with egg white, sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden brown.
