Orange Sesame Chicken

INGREDIENTS

  • Boneless chicken cubes-500gm
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup corn flour
  • 2 tablespoons plain flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Red or black pepper powder-1/2 teaspoon
  • For the sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 4 tablespoons soya sauce
  • 5 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic paste or crushed garlic
  • 1/2 tsp ginger finely minced
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour
  • Sesame seeds & spring onions for garnish

DIRECTIONS

  • 1. Beat the egg and pour it over the boneless chicken cubes. Toss together to ensure that the chicken is evenly coated.
  • 2. In a plastic bag, mix 1/2 cup corn flour, plain flour, salt & pepper together.
  • 3. Add chicken pieces (covered with egg) few pieces at a time, to the flour bag, shake it well so the chicken is fully coated with flour. Put the pieces aside.
  • 4. Heat oil & deep fry these chicken cubes till golden brown.
  • 5. Take them out on a kitchen towel to drain excess oil.
  • 6. In a bowl mix together orange juice, soya sauce, vinegar & red pepper flakes.
  • 7. In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil. Add garlic & ginger to the oil, sauté a little & add the fried pieces of chicken. Stir for a minute with garlic & ginger then add the orange juice mixture. When sauce starts to simmer, (if your oranges were not sweet, you can add a couple of tablespoons of sugar at this point) then add 2 tablespoons corn flour dissolved in 1/2 cup water.
  • 8. Mix till cornflour is cooked and curry is thick. Switch off the flame.
  • 9. Sprinkle roasted sesame seeds & finely chopped spring onion on top.
  • 10. Serve with plain or vegetable fried rice. Add wedges of orange for garnish.
