August Favorites

August Favorites

It seems just like a few days ago that we were celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr and now Eid-ul-Azha is just around the corner. Time just flies by and we don’t even realize where it went. Perhaps it was because school (and college & university) had finally opened up after the long summer holidays.

So whether you are a mother preparing a lunchbox for her kid or a teenager packing a snack to get through the long day of classes ahead, life is pretty busy. However, no matter how hectic life gets make sure you remember to eat. You probably won’t have time for a fancy halwa puri naashta everyday but you can definitely make some quick scrambled eggs or cook a bowl of porridge.

Same thing with dinner – make a quick grilled chicken with a light salad when you are pressed for time and when you have the time, indulge in some cheesy lasagne or a mutton kunna cooked for hours on a low simmer.
If you need ideas, we are here with our list of August Favorites yet again. Do let us know how many you have tried!

Memoni Khowsuey

Khowsuey is a dish which originated in Burma which consists of meat & noodles in a gravy with lots of condiments on the side. This particular version contributed by our home cook Shireen Ahad is the Memoni style with a spicy chicken salan, coconut & yoghurt gravy and lots of condiments on the side. We particularly love her addition of a light kachumber salad as a condiment.

Seviyan ka Zarda

Everyone should know how to make this quick Desi dessert. It takes minutes to prepare and is the best item for impromptu guests. The saffron in the recipe is optional but we particularly love the flavor & smell.

One Pot Biryani

If you hate washing dishes, especially the various daighchis that are needed to cook biryani then this recipe is for you! We have had a lot of discussion on our FB page on the point is that this recipe is a Pulao. The thing is we wanted a quick hack to make quick biryani without having to wash the dishes and here it is.

Basically the cure to all bad days is this chocolate pudding! Just make sure it’s completely chilled and serve it with a scoop (or more) of whipped cream or ice-cream.

Halwa Puri

Cheese Toast and Chai Papa are for the days when you are late for work. Halwa Puri is for the weekends when you can wake up late and spend a lazy Sunday morning (or well afternoon) having garma garam puri with aloo ki tarkari and chai. Best naashta ever!

Macaroni with Tomato Sauce

If our kids had their wish, they would be having boiled macaroni with ketchup all day long. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and maybe even a snack in the middle of the day. Here’s a bit of a gourmet version of the same dish with a rich tomato sauce with grilled chicken & vegetables.

Probably one of our favorite Desi desserts ever and just to make things simple, we have created a recipe video to explain the process. Just remember – there’s no need to skimp on the calories when making this recipe.
