Recipes for a romantic dinner at home

Recipes for a romantic dinner at home

What better way to surprise a loved one then with a delicious meal all prepared from scratch.
Here is Desi Appetite’s guide to recipes that are perfect for a dinner for two! Don’t make everything at once, but decide on the ones that both of you will enjoy eating together. Maybe a light salad if you love greens or tomato soup if that’s what you prefer. Decide on a theme – maybe red and white cause it’s Valentine’s Day; perhaps a sea-green because that’s what you wore on your wedding; or it could be blue because it’s his favorite color; or purple because it’s your favorite. Plan out the meal in advance and then set the ambiance accordingly. Maybe get some candles from the Karachi Candle Company for a candlelight dinner. Take out your favorite crockery and cutlery with some pretty napkins. Make it special because after all you are doing it for the person you love!

A light salad is a great start to a romantic meal. Not only is it simple to make but it just tastes so fresh! If you are a fan of feta cheese then give our Greek Salad a try. Skip the onions if you don’t like them but do make sure you use lots of salad greens for that pop of color. Another option is a classic Caesar salad with crispy croutons and grated parmesan on top.

Tomato Bruschetta
It’s all about fresh & seasonal produce when making this beautiful Italian appetizer. Get some freshly baked bread from the nearby bakery or get Slice of Life available at select supermarkets. If you want to make it really fancy order some online from Okra. Toast up the bread, slice beautiful red tomatoes and just sprinkle a little pinch of salt & pepper.

Tomato Soup
There’s nothing as comforting as a steaming bowl of soup topped with crunchy croutons and tomato soup is just the thing to make in this season. The soup can be made in advance in the morning. Just put it to simmer right before dinner and pop a loaf of garlic bread in the oven. While both are warming up, quickly touch-up your make-up and get ready for a romantic dinner for two.

Chicken on Skewers
Not only do chicken on skewers taste amazing but they also look so pretty especially if you use a variety of vegetables. Cubed capsicum, onions & tomatoes give such a vibrant contrast to the boneless chicken. Add a bit of paprika or tandoori masala in the marinade to enhance the flavor.

If both of you love Italian food then lasagna is the perfect thing to make! That rich meaty bolognaise sauce with chunky tomatoes with a creamy bechamel sauce in between layers of pasta. Make sure you put it under the broiler to give it that beautiful golden brown cheesy top crust. For a complete Italian feast, pair with tomato sauce and garlic bread.

Chicken & Mushroom Pasta with White Sauce
If we had to pick a continental dish that Pakistani’s loved, white sauce pasta would definitely be in the top 5. We just love that rich & creamy béchamel sauce with grilled chicken and maybe some mushrooms tossed together with fettuccini or maybe egg noodles. Whatever the variation it just tastes SO good, and would definitely impress your husband! Be sure to add a little bit of kutti laal mirch for that Desi kick.

Chicken Makhani
Chicken Makhni is another fancy Desi dish – appropriate for fancy occasions and especially when you want to impress your spouse! There are two steps to a delicious chicken makhani – the first is to marinate the chicken for at least 4-6 hours to let the flavors infuse into the chicken; and then making that decadent buttery makhani sauce!
